A powderkeg of emotion and urban alienation, director Martin Scorsese’s seminal portrait of lonely cab driver Travis Bickle gave Robert De Niro one of his most iconic performances — and established screenwriter Paul Schrader as one of the greatest scribes of his generation. Schrader, who later became an Oscar-nominated filmmaker himself, famously wrote Taxi Driver during a dark chapter of his life, and channeled those experiences into a rousing work of art. Now 80 and more prolific than ever, Schrader joins the Playhouse for a special conversation after the screening.
